If you're not too embarrassed to go in the children's section of your
public library, you can find some of the best reference materials there.
Although you won't find much technical detail, you will find tons of
pictures. For more details and a wider range of information than your
average "New True Book", check out Eyewitness books, or Incredible
Cross-sections(?) (by Steven Biesty (sp?)).
