I think it was less the ACTUAL time it took and more of the "maybe" time it
took. Despite that you might check out a MOC for the same amount of time as you
might spend skimming a website, an entire website is a lot more to take in. So I
think there's a natural tendancay to want to say "Eh, that's too much to go
through". Especially when it comes to having 4 or 5 sites to go through.
I found that I'd be more likely to go through the sites and vote when I knew
someone who was up for a spot. Which (I'm guessing) was pretty common. You talk
to the people in your LUG (not that LUGs were terribly common back then), or
people you otherwise know, and say "Hey, check it out, I'm nominated for
CLSOTW!"

There are a lot of people (heck, I've never been to a brickfest, so pretty much everyone on Lugnet) that I've never met in person, (...) (20 years ago, 31-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions, FTX)

| (...) I think you're right that there is a tendency to not bother if something is already on the top-ten list. A couple of other possible reasons: -don't highlight outside of chosen theme (i.e. the "I'm a castle guy so I don't care about space" or (...) (20 years ago, 31-Jan-05, to lugnet.admin.suggestions)
