       (...) Only use one plate, and leave the second (upper) layer hollow so the pin can move up and down vertically and also move a bit out of the vertical axis.       (...) Oh, very much so! Even steam locomotive drivers (in most US prototypes I'm aware of) are held in place by gravity, much less individual freight car trucks.
