I was on a steam excursion trip July 15th, and we were passed by a freight
train with a caboose at the end.  It was pretty dark by then, so I couldn't
see if anyone was actually riding in the caboose.  Sure was neat to see one
rolling, though!

I'm surprised that they're not used during dry Summers like we've had here
in parts of the Midwest.  When I was a kid growing up next to the tracks,
there were a few small fires started by the trains as they went past our
house.  Having people in a caboose watching out for that would be a good
thing, right?

At the time I lived right next to a series of railroad tracks, one right next to the other. Only around 50 or 60 (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.trains)
