  I think the "American" part refers, right-or-wrong, to North America, South
America, or "the Americas," without getting into one nation or another.
  Similarly, I had a professor from England who was just a few generations
removed from Africa, and she worked in the USA as a resident alien.  How would
one refer to her "race"?  Certainly she wasn't an African-American, since she
wasn't an American.

(1) landmass wise, not economically, we're not even close. We're also #1 on
the best places to live list, so says the UN. GO CANADA!!

  Then why are you all crowding so close to the border?! 8^)
