I think this is the right idea, and carrying this one step further, we can
see that Anakin does bring about this balace:
Anakin himself does fall to the dark side, but in doing so, helps his son
Luke become balanced in the force. Anakin's initial fall to the dark side
saves Luke from the same fate. Just when Luke is about to fall to the dark
side of the force, he realizes that he is on the same path as his father.
This realization saves him from falling to the dark side, and allows him to
bring his father back from the dark side.
Neither father nor son is now fully on the light side, but rather both have
seen and used the power of the dark side, and are able to avoid falling to
it totally.
