Unless I misunderstood the thread - I thought the concept was that the
inital box would come with some programs, you could buy others, or you
could buy(or utilise) a module allowing the freedom to program from a
PC.
Its not restricting the freedoms - but it is guaranteeing follow up
sales on a product. The base unit would be cheaper than the current
RCX, but instead of having many fractured and different base units -
it would be upgradable with other modules to give additional
functionality. And as long as Lego keep the base unit cheap - and
ensure that the base unit, plus external motor/sensor module, plus
programming module is not much more than the current RIS - then you
are just as able to do what you would do now (and possibly more). But
if you are just starting out - you could simply buy the base module,
with base programs - for about the price of a spybotics set. I am not
sure about $10-20 per program, as they are only simple ones - I think
$1-$5 is about right (the price of a small set).
I can actually visualise how the main unit and the modules would look
too. Let me put it together and I will pop the pictures up on
OrionRobots later.
