The concept of making the number of attachable devices expandable (by
having some kind of serial bus) would be an amazing step forward for
the RCX - and then selling expansion kits with furthar expansion
boards, motors and sensors would be superb. This could also mean that
you could buy an IR board, or an RF board for connection with
programming towers.
I dont mind the idea of being a simple basic kit as long as it can be
made programmable from the PC with something like NQC, but have
simpler program cards/boards for learners before it gets plugged into
the PC. However - that would also benefit from bundling - so an
advanced builder can buy a controller kit, with programming
board/software and stuff as one purchase - slightly cheaper than
buying the two items seperately. To keep costs down - the basic kit
could also have two onboard motors and one onboard sensor (as well as
the bus for expansion) - so it is not unlike the Spybotics - in size
and price - and should come with at least two or three program cards
and two are three alternative sets.
With those learning programs - extra value would be added by also
having a mini-cd (like the ones with the first Bionacle pots) with the
RCX code program on it, and a product card showing an RCX code style
flow diagram for the program for a beginner to examine.
Once we have bashed this out, it is probably worth someone summarising
this thread(and linking back to it) on the lugnet dear lego forum.
Cheers

| (...) Multiple programming bricks working together is very interesting idea, but it is not what was suggested. Actually, this step will limit users even more than current RCX does, because several programs need to be written and debugged, not one. (...) (19 years ago, 24-Jun-05, to lugnet.robotics)
