so what if I use time....

Because if you're using AC you're at an advantage because you *CAN* time
everything.

This is interesting... I don't think Matthias would agree with you:

His project X robot relied entirely on timing, and he had a lot of problems at
the competition.

If you're using battery power you can't do that.

I guess AC would be more consistent than batteries, but it still isn't good
enough to position things accurately. Then again, accuracy is irrelevant in rice
:)

You get that huge inherent advantage of being able to build a simpler robot that
runs far more reliably becuase you have the option to plug in your robot.

Don't you have a 1.0 RCX?? I distinctly remember you plugging in a delta robot
:)

Maybe AC would offer a slight advantage, especially since digging through rice
is going to require a lot of torque from the motors. But I'm still not sure what
my vote is. I don't think availability should be the deciding factor. I have
used old style pneumatics that are much more difficult to obtain than a 1.0 RCX.
Chris has used cybermaster touch sensors... If its Lego, we should allow it. I
think the real question is whether or not cords can interfere with the other
robot. At this point I can't see how that would happen, but who knows what kind
of crazy strategy people will come up with? Maybe there could be a rule that
mobile robots must use batteries, while stationary robots have the option of
using AC.

This whole AC vs battery thing is getting crazy. RCX Version In effect, we’ve already discussed this ages ago and the outcome was that as long as its lego then no problem...we don’t discriminate against certain lego parts. If we did, then we’d all (...) (21 years ago, 26-Aug-03, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
