Not all of them.  I know, at 8, I would have noticed as you probably would
have also.  And my six year old daughter would probably notice also.  But my
eight year old daughter would probably be oblivious.

They know exactly what a train window is.  I bet there is a
very good reason(s) why they offered transparent thin walls instead.

I think it's much less sinister than that.  I think they *didn't* approach it
like this:

Well, they've asked for train windows.  And we can't provide them because
(insert reason here).  But we have to appease them and give them a train
window.  Hey, this piece was a window in a train!  Give them that!  That way,
we can say we gave them a train window.

I think it was more like this:

What pieces are the moulds already tooled for?  Do we have any pieces that we
had to over produce that can be used here?  What pieces can we provide so
that, if this thing is a flop, we can redirect the pieces into sets and
minimize losses?  Ok, compare that against what they've asked for, how can we
meet their needs without causing us any problems?  Alright, we'll go with that
list for now.  Ok, now what do we call these things?

A couple possibilities come to mind:
- don't want to hurt sales of traditional product (soccer, model team, trains)
- production/supply limitations

<snip>

I doubt they're worried about bulk ordering hurting sales.  They've really
been fixated on playability over building experience.  So I would think that
they're assuming that it wouldn't affect set sales.  And, by and large, I
think that's right.  It would certainly hurt sales from us, in some cases,
because we won't be buying large numbers of certain sets to get certain pieces
anymore.  But most of their sales don't come from there.  Most sales go to
kids, one set at a time.  Some pieces become very valuable because they occur
only in small quantities in large sets.  I think this is largly accidental.
In some cases, like the darth vader minifig, they're obviously intending to do
this.  But in the case of train windows, for instance, I think they just don't
care.  They're probably just as amazed at some of the auczilla prices as the
rest of us.
