I don't know about the intricacies of Australian Copyright law (nor even
the US), but I don't think that there would be any problem creating a
backup for yourself (note that in the US, court decisions might imply
that you could at most create a single backup). By current TLG policy
and actions, they almost certainly would not pay attention to you. They
probably wouldn't do anything if you distributed it at cost to friends.
If you started selling it, they will most likely eventually get
interested.
