    Has Babylon Fallen? —Chris Phillips
Once there was a place whose inhabitants all spoke a common language. As a unified community, their combined strength gave them such confidence that they challenged God Himself. They lost, and were scattered to the four corners of the earth, no (...) (18 years ago, 21-Nov-06, to lugnet.general)

(...) And they spread throughout the world. With new lands to fill their populations grew. Facing new challenges as they lived in new environments, they had to learn to innovate. Finding new resources, they enriched themselves. As the new societies (...) (18 years ago, 21-Nov-06, to lugnet.general)

(...) I hope you are right. But it still sounds like a long way to go to get right back to where LUGNET once was - a place to facilitate sharing for the betterment of all facets of the hobby. (...) I see what you are saying, but in the past these (...) (18 years ago, 21-Nov-06, to lugnet.general)

Re: Has Babylon Fallen? —David Eaton
(...) Hi Chris! (Come to a NELUG meeting!) Yeah, it's changed a lot. There's probably scads of reasons why LUGNET isn't what it once was. Offhand, I'd say: 1) It's more work to post at LUGNET - Have to apply for posting privilages - Post (...) (18 years ago, 21-Nov-06, to lugnet.general)

(...) [...] (...) Mmm... nntp. I really like nntp. Like Dave I still love lugnet, and I still come to see what's up.          Re: Has Babylon Fallen? —Chris Phillips
(...) Hey, man, you messin' with my homies now! Sorry to ignore your FUT, but actually, NELUG is a prime example of the brain drain that has occurred here. That club has among its members quite a few of the most highly respected AFOLs around. But a (...) (18 years ago, 22-Nov-06, to lugnet.general)

Re: Has Babylon Fallen? —Elroy Davis
(...) Part of this, for me at least, was/is a lack of time. I meant to post a notice on Lugnet a week before the show, but I spent so much time getting ready for the show, that it slipped my mind. I also hope to write up a short bit about the show (...)           Re: Has Babylon Fallen? —Chris Phillips
(...) Thanks for this link. I actually browsed around nelug.org yesterday and somehow didn't find these. It looks like it was a great show!        (...) Due to the amount of time for setup, Jonathan opted to leave some of his buildings home this time, so that made the city section smaller.            Re: Has Babylon Fallen? —Elroy Davis
(...) Oh yeah! I remember seeing those at a show before I joined NELUG. I went out that day and bought some reed switches. The next day I spent a few hours burning my fingers and melting the things together. I never did get them to work properly. (...) (18 years ago, 23-Nov-06, to lugnet.trains)

(...) The (URL) reed switch sensors> are a bit tricky. There's not much room to work with, so you've gotta use pretty small switches.             Re: Has Babylon Fallen? —Christopher Masi
(...) Yeah, I almost took you up on the offer. When I designed a trolley line, I thought wouldn't it be cool if the trolley crosses the main line I realize that I'd need reed switches. Then I realized that even at your cost I need $80 worth of (...) (18 years ago, 23-Nov-06, to lugnet.trains)

Re: Has Babylon Fallen? —Chris Phillips
(...) Hmm, we should probably check my math. I think at the time I was having trouble finding inexpensive 3-foot electrical cables to chop in half, but I think $80 would pay for materials for more sensors than I usually bring to a train show.
