Am I the only one who feels this way? Hello?? Is anyone still out there???

Well, there seems to be a few of us still here
.
I think if nothing else keeps LUGNET (tm) going, it will be people
complaining that LUGNET is in decline/has failed/has
jumped the shark or whatever.
|
I suppose on some deep level, thats what I was trying to accomplish when I
started this thread. I honestly wasnt trying to just complain, but on the
other hand I am only one member of this community, and I would not presume that
I know all the answers. The best I can do is to participate in this discussion
with the hope that others here also see how great this board once was and could
once again become.
|
... I think things are going well. There is a steady stream of
MOCs, and through the encouragement and guidance of community members such as
Tim Gould, people are more and more
commenting on MOCs.

Thanks for that link! That thread covers much of what Ive been thinking about
today.

LUGNET is, as are so many things, what we make of them. We cannot simply
lament that things are not the same as they once were and expect them to
magically change back to what they once were, just like we cant complain
about what is featured in spotlight and expect what is featured to change
without us taking action. LUGNET is a community (albeit part of a wider
community), if we want it to change, we have to change it.
You (and this is the generic you) want more MOCs? Make more MOCs. You want
better things spotlighted? Spotlight better things (or even post better
things to spotlight). You want more feedback on MOCs? Post more feedback on
MOCs.
|
Im with you so far, but...
|
You want someone posting like lar used to? Post like lar used to.
|
...this was always the kind of behavior that got me into trouble!
|
You (and this is the partular you) may ask Has Babylon fallen? Possibly,
but if it has, I ask this: what are you going to do to rebuild it?
|
In the few days since Ive been back, I posted two MOCs (got spotlighted with no
comments) gave feedback and encouragement on the new BOW wargame, and
participated in some playful banter with the locals. (That last one is always a
dicey proposition for me - Im usually well-intentioned, but easily
misunderstood!) And, of course, I posed the Babylon question in hopes of
igniting this very discussion.
But I am just one individual. I can (and will) continue to make these small
contributions, but it is upon us all to recreate the sense of community that
once thrived here. I am relieved to see that I am not the only one who has this
concern.
It feels good to be back.

| (...) While I find it hard to believe that that could get anyone into trouble, perhaps it was merely because you weren't correctly noting which hat you were wearing at the time. HTH Allister (18 years ago, 22-Nov-06, to lugnet.general, FTX)
