Am I the only one who feels this way?  Hello??  Is anyone still out there???

Hi Chris! (Come to a NELUG meeting!)

Yeah, it's changed a lot. There's probably scads of reasons why LUGNET isn't
what it once was. Offhand, I'd say:

1) It's more work to post at LUGNET
  - Have to apply for posting privilages
  - Post authentication is more annoying
2) LUGNET suffered a lot with administration issues
  - Long time members had issues with other members, leaving less experienced
people at LUGNET
  - Administration was tedious and not always timely
3) Other venues are appealing
  - LUGNET used to be way too huge to read all at once
  - Other sites are tailored to particular interests
  - LUGNET lacks various features (edit posts, avatars, bulletin board view,
etc)

Of course, LUGNET has advantages over some other sites (like NNTP!), but
overall, LUGNET simply wasn't able to satisfy the increasing majority of people
in the hobby. So as it became easier to set up generic websites, people simply
went off on their own and made sites on their own.

Personally, I'm glad that LUGNET still exists. It's always felt to me like a
"home base" for Lego, and probably will feel that way for a long time to come.

Once there was a place whose inhabitants all spoke a common language. As a unified community, their combined strength gave them such confidence that they challenged God Himself. They lost, and were scattered to the four corners of the earth, no (...) (18 years ago, 21-Nov-06, to lugnet.general)
