Hmm, we should probably check my math. I think at the time I was having trouble
finding inexpensive 3-foot electrical cables to chop in half, but I think $80
would pay for materials for more sensors than I usually bring to a train show.
Another thought I'd had was to simply donate a bunch of these to the club so
they would be available for anyone to use.
I also saw a pretty cool way to create an electrical connector out of a small PC
board with four plated vias of the same diameter as a LEGO stud. Since we're
already talking about using non-lego components, performing brick surgery, and
using glue, why not replace the wire and connector with a less-expensive
non-LEGO solution as well? I mean seriously, why pay a premium for 3 feet of
wire?
