Hi, everyone.
I was going through a few things here at my home in Michigan,
and I ran across something odd that I'd forgotten about. It
got me thinking: What kind of true oddities that have some
connection to LEGO--themed items, promotional things, or other
tie-ins that are bizarre--do people here have? There are
easily enough hard-core, longtime collectors from around the
world here to have some strange items from the early days of
LEGO as well as some of the newer promotional items.
To kick this off, I'll share my only slightly odd item: a
lightsaber handle from the Wal-Mart 1999 (IIRC) "lightsaber
building" competition. It's a black plastic "handle" with
a + shaped set of plates screwed into the top upon which to
anchor a "blade." Apparently these were not supposed to be
released by the stores, being promotional items, but I
bought a clearance bucket and one was hiding in there.
What do all of you have? (John, your 1593 is unusual, but
it doesn't count. ;) )
Eagerly awaiting tales of mystery and intrigue,
LFB

| (...) Good topic! Well I don't know what all I have, exactly, but here are a few oddities I can remember off the top of my head. None are QUITE as odd as yours though. From Germany: 3 copies of a fairly ordinary set (4221 basic bricks) which have a (...) (22 years ago, 20-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

| (...) The LEGO items that surprised me the most were not promotional but were the HO scale cars the first time I saw them (the NLS, who is into VW's, found some in a pile of toy cars at a yard sale-- I would have completely missed them). My current (...) (22 years ago, 20-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

| <<snip>> My wierdest item is rather lame: It's a #10 white Technic cross axle from a snap set (not the old milky white Technic axle) that's "distorted" out of the box. It has probably been subjected to heat and/or preassure. I'll take a pic (...) (22 years ago, 21-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

| This is weird but not even Lego: an orange IPSO candy dispenser. A 2x6x5 brick with a flip-up candy dispenser door in one corner. It has stickers on the square faces, studs on top and back, tubes on the other two sides (from memory.) These were (...) (22 years ago, 21-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Apparently it was sent to my employer as part of a promotion pack for the "LEGO Island" computer software. Being friends with the proper people in the proper (...) | Not exactly weird, but intriguing, I have three 2x4 bricks (white, yellow, red, with slots), which was sent to me as 'payment' for BlockCAD. | Hmm... This may not be weird or bizzare, but neat and very rare... allow me to explain. Just as I joined the Lego club, there was an advertisement for the Space building contest. I entered but never got a notice of winning the big prize. Two years (...) (22 years ago, 21-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)
