    LEGO Desk —Eric Harshbarger
There have been a couple of posts lately (including one of my own) showing off miniature models of office spaces and desks. Well, here's what happens when someone asks for a LEGO desk that's actually life-sized: (URL) ---...--- Eric Harshbarger / (...)         Re: LEGO Desk —Randy Anchikoski
Your desk and other LEGO creations are very cool...your IMHO bites the brick (kids are generally great until they grow up to be people who don't like kids). IMNSHO Randy -- Randy Anchikoski randy@viclug.tzo.com "Eric Harshbarger" (...) (24 years ago, 22-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

         Re: LEGO Desk —Tom McDonald
(...) I was wondering that myself.. (...) But I wasn't criticising.. it's really cool. Somehow I can't help thinking that some hotshot specified the desk just to be a pain in the @$$ and to see how far the company was willing to go :-) Remind me to (...)         Re: LEGO Desk —Mladen Pejic
WOW! I remeber a few years (or months) ago reading about how someone wanted to build a LEGO furniture such as a chair, but man, this is certainly pushing it to the limit. ;-) I also love the way you planned out the use of the colours, and the use of (...)         Re: LEGO Desk —James J. Trobaugh
Eric, The final product looks great!! I was wondering how the top was going to turn out, looks very cool. The checker boarding of the 1x1 bricks around the top edges is perfect. I can't wait to see it in person this weekend. jt -- ---- James J. (...) (24 years ago, 23-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

        Re: LEGO Desk —George Haberberger
(...) Wow! That's amazing. It's weird, I read on Slashdot a few days ago about someone building a Lego desk, they must have been referring to yours. BTW, does your ISP want to be Slashdotted? George (24 years ago, 23-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

         Re: LEGO Desk —Eric Harshbarger
I already got slashdotted when I announced the Linux Penguin Model. If everyone here at LUGnet has had a chance to see the Desk, someone is welcome to announce it on /. I'll just expect to lose access to my email and website for about 16 hours (...) (24 years ago, 23-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

         Re: LEGO Desk —Kevin Loch
You could always upload it to the brickshelf gallery. While it's no substitute for your nice presentation it can withstand /.'ing fairly well. It would also probably expose your work to more people. You could include a text file with the URL for the (...) (24 years ago, 23-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

         Re: LEGO Desk —Eric Harshbarger
I stressed to the company that gluing was really theonly option if the desk were to be used on a regular basis (though it was quite stury in the unglued form... I feel much more confident with it glued). eric (...) (24 years ago, 23-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

          Re: LEGO Desk —Dave Schuler
(...) You mention on your page that the glue caused some warping. Did you find it necessary to apply the glue to the sides of the bricks or just the bottoms and/or tops? I've never tried gluing Lego, so I'd be interested to hear how much warping one (...) (24 years ago, 24-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

          (canceled) —Dave Schuler

          Re: LEGO Desk —Eric Harshbarger
The 'warping wasn't actually a deformation of the bricks, per se... but rather a distortion of the model as a whole. Anyone who has built large 'walls' out of LEGO bricks knows that even at 2 studs thick the walls are quite flexible... the minute (...) (24 years ago, 24-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

         Re: LEGO Desk —Eric Joslin

         Re: LEGO Desk —Eric Harshbarger
As usual, I have no real instructions at all for the Desk. I had one rough sketch I Faxed for approval, but it is just a hand sketch (no studs, nothing). I just built it from the ground up. sorry, eric ps: maybe I should just go into the business (...) (24 years ago, 23-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

         Re: LEGO Desk —Mike Poindexter
I think it is not a rare request, as Rosie O'Donnel was wanting one as well. I guess it would have to be glued if she was planning on sitting on it...          Re: LEGO Desk —Scott Edward Sanburn
Wow, that is one of the craziest things I ever heard of / seen. Was the person who requested the desk a big LEGO fan, or someone who was just seeing if the company would do it?         Eric's Desk makes Page 1 of the Globe and Mail —Heather Patey
The article is about the growing LEGO craze among adults, and The Desk is cited as an example. I scanned the article (two pages) and uploaded it here: (URL) Heather -- Heather Patey St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada Pirate Wench / Brick Detective (24 years ago, 25-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Eric's Desk makes Page 1 of the Globe and Mail —Steve Chapple
(...) I too found that very interesting. As 10% of the market - and certainly the pickiest 10% - perhaps we can now hope for better sets... The UCS and LEGO Direct both are IMO directed squarely at us. SRC (24 years ago, 25-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Eric's Desk makes Page 1 of the Globe and Mail —Matthew Miller
(...) Yeah, I'm actually surprised -- that's a bigger number than I expected. What's more, they say 1 in 10 Lego buyers -- not 10% of the money. And I think it's fairly safe to assume that the average adult fan spends significantly more than the (...) (24 years ago, 25-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: Eric's Desk makes Page 1 of the Globe and Mail —Kevin Loch
(...) Don't you think they would try to track things like that? That number is probably based on tracking data from their own stores and S@H since that's the only place they could easially do it. KL (24 years ago, 26-Aug-00, to lugnet.general)

           percentage of adults —Todd Lehman

Re: Eric's Desk makes Page 1 of the Globe and Mail —Steve Chapple
(...) Perhaps it just means that 1 in 10 buyers is an adult. This would not be surprising at all, and we would be wrong to presume that all adults are buying it for themselves like we do.
