Funny thing with Exo-Force is it's based around the style of Japanese kids'
Anime and Manga that comes with associated collectible toys/cards etc. And most
of these nowadays have a pretty good mix of strong male/female roles (though
admittedly rarely a female lead) as they know at least not to cut out half the
TV audience, even before you consider the customers for the merchandise.
I think the stumbling block across the LEGO range is the large number of sets
that only contain one minifig. And if that one minifig is female, little boys
won't demand the set with quite the same volume as they do the other sets.
Compare that to how many little girls it would actually make a difference to.
I'm not saying it's right - it's a problem of selling to a culture that already
has the attitudes in place.
But they do need to try where they can. And, given the stylings and source
influences, I think Exo-Force should be just as viable as City.
