I never understood why Ninja was a Castle subtheme...to me the two
series are unrelated and just because the sets represent the same era,
they took place in different parts of the world and I don't see any
thematic connection between them.

Hey, Space stuff takes place on different planets...why can't Castle take
place in different parts of the world?  :)

Why not consider Ninja a separate theme?

Well, Ninja *is* a separate theme from the classic castle sets, as well as
from Fright Knights, Dragon Masters, Royal Realm, Wolfpack, Forestmen, etc.
But all of those are part of something larger:  The LEGO SYSTEM Castle
product line, a.k.a. the LEGO Castle System.

Ninja is a sub-category of Castle (not classic castle, which is also a
subcategory of Castle) because of the positioning of the set numbers and
because of what's printed on the shipping cartons and because of what you
find on the official LEGO website if you dig deep enough.  :)

OK Todd, I will grant you that Ninja is a subtheme of Castle, as I have
incorporated those sets into my customized Fibblesnork under Castle because
of the set numbers.  Still, I hate to admit it; it really sucks for TLC to
stoop so low.   However, I think you are pushing these various Lego ___
System pretty hard (in admin.database a few days ago), while TLC hasn't used
the terms officially in quite some time.  To me, each so-called subtheme is
now a system of its own.  The systems are just a lot smaller than they were
in the 80s and early 90s.  But its still a lot of arguing for something as
menial as nomenclature.
