This is what I responded to.  It appears that this person refers
Ninja to more traditional Castle subthemes.

I never understood why Ninja was a Castle subtheme...to me the two
series are unrelated and just because the sets represent the same era,
they took place in different parts of the world and I don't see any
thematic connection between them.  Why not consider Ninja a separate
theme?

Well, they both represent Fuedal periods in their respective cultures, and I
assume that is why they are "Castle" sets.  When you said "era", did you mean
that they were both fuedal, or that they existed at the same time?  If the
latter, you're wrong.  European Fuedalism pretty much died out by the 1400s,
whereas Japanese Fuedalism flourished between the 1500s and the 1800s.

I still maintain the Ninja subtheme sucks.  I don't see how anyone
could prefer it to real Castle stuff.

While I don't prefer Ninja over Castle, I *love* the Ninja sets.  I like
them for these reasons:

Color combinations...esp. the black, red and white with a touch of
gray...I really like how these colors look together.
Shapes...I love the corrugated walls and sloping pieces and the way they
were put together to form an arcitectural *style*.
Story potential...there's lots of possibility for creative play in these
sets

Some other factors that make these sets appealing to me are:

part selection
multicultural aspect of the sets (*)

Personally, I like 'em for the 'figs and the pieces.  I thought the sets were
poorly done.
