Let me first thank you for being one of those guys who try to keep a fair
eye on all sides
- Tood's, who continues to volunteer and make LUGNET an ever better
place to be.
- The Web Interface users, who, indeed, have an ideal solution at
their hands (Thanks again, Todd!).
- Mail and News Server Users, who certainly have some reason to not
be entirely happy with the current authentication scheme.
Obviously, the last group, including myself, takes most of the bandwidth in
lugnet.admin.nntp these days. I appreciate that Todd is still willing to
discuss potentially better solutions for those.
On the idea to switch to the Web interface, I think it is going to drive
cost up for people like me, who are on a pay-by-the-minute connection, and
therefore read and post news offline. Also, for some Laptop users who don't
get to read news except offline while they travel, it may not work at all.
Putting up with the inconvenience, for now, is my way of handling the
situation. This may also delay some of my posts by a day or so, but if they
are no longer important after that time, I probably shouldn't have posted
them in the first place ...
And of course I try to constructively discuss other ways of handling
authentication, in order to eventually eliminate the current out-of-band
mechanism.
Greetings
Horst
