In a recent (and active) thread entitled "This is irritating" in RTL, it's
been suggested that "Lugnet was designed for compartmentalised dorks" and
that "[it's] for the dorks who can't make up [their] own mind whether to
read a posting or not" and that I am "constantly telling people where they
can and can't post a message on the threat of being expelled"...

I personally happen to disagree with these opinions, but am concerned about
how such an impression could have formed, and whether other people share
that view.

As a long time lurker on Lugnet I'd like to chime in as well that I find
myself coming here rather than RTL more and more.  I enjoy RTL just for
completeness sake, just to see if anything interesting is cooking, but when I
need to do some research or read a thread of helpful discussions, then it's
here I find myself.  And I can't stress enough how much of a difference the
flexibility of Lugnet's filtering design and the overall usefullness of its
interface makes in that choice of where to go.  I've been telling my View
Master friends lately that this should be a model for designing a web presence
for View Master collectors.
I applaud you, Todd, for being sensitive to the "Big Brother" slights that
come your way on occasion, but man don't sweat it too much.  In Mark's case it
really does sound like sour grapes.  Being a one time radical environmentalist
and Earth Firster! I can see how the organization of this site could lend
itself to paranoria about censorship and sanitization, but if one actually
spends time here and posts just about ANYTHING they'll find it to be one of
the most rewarding websites out there.  Thanks Todd!
