I similarly voted for 1x2 bricks, but in rare colors.  I think part of this is
the nature of such a survey.  Going across all themes, it is nearly impossible
for a speciallized piece to win through (except garage doors for some reason).
Even if all Space builders voted for a particular element, it won't get through
without votes from other themes.  Basic bricks, plates, slopes, and tiles,
though, are generally useful.  So even if a smaller proportion of space builders
voted for these, they'll still end up on top, because there will also be a
portion of train, castle, town, etc builders who want the same things.

I voted for mostly architectural elements--windows, doors, slopes, the
aforementioned 1x2 brick--because I thought these would be ultimately the most
useful thing to have available in bulk.  I also spent a couple of votes on
speciallized castle elements, and I threw away one vote on a turkey, just
because I've always wanted one.
