Actually, for the 3d set I was more thinking along the lines of the monorail
system lego sold in the early '90's (like the 6399 Airport Shuttle). Something
like this takes up less space than a train layout and is different. I know there
are many fans out there who'd love to see the monorail come back in one form or
another. As said, with power functions now
available it might actually not be too difficult to realize for TLG...

The thing is, with the now somewhat more realistically sized cars, trucks,
planes and so on the scale of the old monorail is even more off-scale than the
6wide trains always were. Thus, any kind of monorail would have to be in the
range of 6wide at least - just as street cars are normally the same size or even
larger than buses. Unless you want to follow a new (futuristic) approach to
public transportation, that is.

I totally agree that developing a usable system should not be an issue given the
capabilities of PF. Tracks wouldn't have to be electrified, so they should be
just as easy to develop and manufacture as those used with the Racers, Trains
and even the old monorail system. As more and more kids today probably relate
more to their local means of public transportation than something abstract like
a railroad train that many of them hardly or never use, it might even be a
revenue driver (I've found that that is the language some management folks
understand best ;) )

Jerry

I'd agree that kids are less likely to use railways nowadays, but that doesn't
mean they have no interest.  The thing I think needs to be stressed is that if
you ask a group of kids to draw a train, they don't draw diesel haulage locos or
electric shuttle services, they draw steam trains.  So make them!
