Note: Nikon makes a great camera! it's called the Cool Pix 995 and it just
had a major price drop to 599.99 (it's on it's way to the discontinued bin)
THOUGH... you can get it cheaper, much cheaper, look at buydig.com (I found
them on pricewatch.com) I just got one from there for 444.00 with 24.95 fedex
shipping.  And I can tell you, I'm VERY pleased with this camera.  If you're
in the market and have the money, I wouldn't wait, or you'll be sitting like
me... finally saved up enough money, and the camera your heart was set on is
discontinued and you can't find it anywhere.  That's how I ended up with the
Nikon instead.  (Which I don't think is a bad thing now!)

There are a fair few low end cameras around. (In the UK) you can pick one up for a bot £40 - £50, so it may be birthday present fodder. You could always buy a cheap webcam or if you've got a scanner just use conventional photos and scan em in, like (...) (23 years ago, 20-Mar-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish.photography)

(...) I remember what it's like being a kid with limited income :( Like someone said, you could always look at getting a cheap webcam and using that. (Just remember you get what you pay for) Though instead of doing that, I'd probably try to find a (...) (23 years ago, 20-Mar-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish.photography)

(...) Yeah. I'm short on funds too. That's why I'm selling some of my extra Lego in the buy-sell-trade column. I think It's gonna be a while until I get myself a decent camera. :) Just my two brickz... <<_Matt Hein_>> Lugnet member NO. 1112 (23 years ago, 20-Mar-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.publish.photography)

Maybe I should have asked the other moms how much they give their kids instead of relying on my eight-year-old to tell me what kids these days are getting for an allowance.... Your best bet on a small allowance is a cheap webcam (the cheapest I see here is CN$30, so US$20) for closeups and a normal 35mm camera with the pics developed onto a CD for overall pictures.
