Actually, it's funny you mention this... I was trying out a simple
chassis the other day, and I had two identical parallel gear trains..
but my robot was still turning, ie: one was a lot faster.  I finally
figured out the problem: one was built using parts from my Lego Technic
Crane (the biiig one). There was so much ABS dust that it was getting
lubed by the dust, and hence operating with much less friction.  The
significant lubrication was happening at a single beam/axle interface.
