You DID see my humility score, right? The US IS the
best country in the world, but not to worry, the UK is right up there in the
top ten if not actually second.

I was not aware that there was a competition for the "best country in the
world". If I were to choose, I doubt it would be the UK or the USA. I'd
probably choose some small state which did not bully anyone, support human
rights abuses - but did provide a good level of social provision.

Iceland, if it weren't for the inability to avoid tobacco smoke, would be very
near the top of my list.  As I understand it, modern Iceland is a derivative of
the only real-world example of Privately Produced Law.  The have almost no
crime.  And no one starves.

*And* they have some majorly kickin' 4 wheel drives. One of the carmags I
read on airplanes had a "one lap around X" article which they do as a
regular feature, and the X in this case was Iceland. They hooked up with an
outfit called Artic Trucks that builds way rad. They took a Toyota Tundra
(with monster tires, a creeper 0th gear, GPS display, and cab controlled
inflate/deflate) to the top of a glacier, across crevasses and all, to see a
volcano cauldron as a side trip. At one point they lowered the tire pressure
to 4 psi in order to get a good grip on the slick ice, WHILE in a zero viz
whiteout. That's so nutty it's cool.

Oh, and geothermal heat. And midnite sun/noon dark. And massive raves. And
the women blow you off quickly or go home with you without a lot of games.
Very efficient. (THAT was not mentioned in the car rag, I think it was in
some mens rag, not that it matters to me, I'm happily married).

The only part not to like is all the herring.

FUT fun unless the topic veers back to "why Iceland came out the way it did"
