In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Scott Arthur writes:
What I was talking about was how in the USA the main political parties are
hugely indebted to their sponsors.

And reform in this area is coming -- give it time.  Even the two party
system is slowly but surely under attack. Again, time will correct these issues.

As far as the whole gun thing goes: Sorry to disappoint you but I believe
that the ruling class should always bear arms -- as both a right and a duty,
for ourselves and the protection of others.  For God and country, if you
will.  Free men bear arms.

And you seem to be caught up in some extended socialist whirlwind.  In the
U.S. we are not.  We would rather live free than have to be responsible for
one another BY LAW.  I prefer giving to charities of my choosing rather than
be destrained to it by the threat of force.  Some deserve only my pity, not
my funding.

Isn't it the case that your country is in deep s**t as concerns the staffing
of hospitals and healthcare facilites?  Isn't it the case that people wait
for months to see a practitioner and even then they may have to wait months
for subsequent treatment?  Isn't it the case that sending people abroad,
probably to Europe, to obtain medical care is being considered by your govt.
because of this healthcare crisis?  Isn't it true that people lose their
jobs, unable to perform their duties, because they can't get healthcare
within a reasonable time?  Pardon me if I remain unimpressed with your
"amazing" national healthcare system, but these problems don't exactly fill
me with envy.

The last time I needed healthcare services it cost me bundle out of my own
pocket, but the service was fast (same day) and I didn't lose my finger (in
fact, except for some very minor nerve damage, the thing looks almost as
good as new -- I am typing with it now!).  I think I got good value for the
money.

You said your examples were caricatures.  They were -- on both sides of the
equation.  I remain mystified by some of the points you are trying to make.
Can you clarify, or are you just taking shots at our way of life in the U.S.
for no reason? It certainly feels like that, Scott.
