I'm not sure what manner yout think I mean. I don't think you are the guy
holding the gun, if that's what you mean. That would be too messy. Instead,
you pay someone else to hold the gun on your fellows while their resources are
collected.

Yes, you've mentioned that before. ;-)

Right. As long as the biggest gang is handling the protection racket, you're
OK with it. I understand these ideas. What I don't understand is why?

When possible, I vote for people who are against taxation. There are often no
choices of that type, so I try to vote for the least obnoxious alternative.
But I don't vote for the winners, so I have never had representation in
government.

I think what you're saying is that we disagree about what should be funded.
But I don't think so. I can have a discussion about what tax money (setting
aside that the concept of taxation is evil) should be doing. And I think,
though this might surprise you, that you and I would agree on a huge amount of
stuff.
If taxation were not evil -- and I were in favor of it, or if we're talking
about what a behavior a government should be incenting, given our modern
context, I think that the following things are most important:
- Education of the highest quality possible for the highest number possible.
- Keeping people fed while they get their education
- The assurance that our global neighbors are behaving
I guess those're the big three for me. I keep thinking of other stuff
(reasonable environmental protection, for instance) but they're always
derivative of the others...at least in a system where the main goal of the
government is to protect its people.
