Of course you did, and I bet you and everyone else at that school learned
things they were really interested in. I think one problem with American
schools is that they think that there's a strict curriculum which everybody
needs to learn in order to succeed in life. What they don't realize is that
you can succeed just as well as a baker or a carpenter or a ditch digger as you
can as a CEO or a professor or a venture capitalist. You might not make as
much money, but it's really stupid to think that that's what makes people
successful. And, ironically, it's probably exactly that belief that prevents
people from having good lives.
By the way, I love digging a good ditch every now and then. The thing is, for
a lot of what we consider unskilled jobs, a person who loves the work but might
not be so book smart can do a much better job than the engineer who knows all
the theory, but hates the job.

Well, don't count on it. I did well on a lot of standardized tests and
required essays because I knew the rules to follow, but I've been looking for a
job for nearly a year now. It seems that you not only have to know the rules,
you also have to be willing to restrict yourself to following them. Thing is,
my B.S. degree is good, but my just plain BS isn't.

Sorry, irony don't carry well in HTML text, especially since I haven't mastered
the <irony> tag.
Capitalism does suck, but greed is the only human quality which we can really
depend on. Most utopias are based on altruism or communism or something, but
they fail because few people can be completely altruistic or community minded.
Capitalism works (such as it does) because everybody is greedy to some extent.
And the people who aren't are easy to beat down, almost by definition.

Sorry, forgot about that, us unemployed people don't get vacations.
