I have nothing really important to say.  I just thought I'd ramble on
about something I'm making, but haven't taken any pictures of yet.  (I had
planned to take pictures of the building process, but you know how it is
when you get on a roll...you don't want to stop building!)  Right now I'm
wondering if I have enough black bricks to finish it...

Anyway, this is my biggest Castle MOC yet, overflowing the edges of a
32x32 and two 16x32 blue baseplates.  (Its footprint is about the same as
that of the Dragon Clans Desert Outpost, but it's *much* taller!)  The
baseplates are arranged so that the two 16x32s are attached by hinges, so
the back of the castle can swing open for access.  When not swung apart ,
they're secured by a Technic Pin.  Er, like this:

Anyway, that still made the front too "deep" for easy use, so I designed
each level of the front to be removable, using the same "tile method" that
TLC uses in several of their models.  (The NLNLF(1) has also been using
this for removable roofs in her LEGO town.  Gonna need more tiles...)

The front half of the castle is structurally complete but unfurnished and
undecorated. It's got 4 levels (plus the roof), which will probably become
a dungeon/magical workshop, the main hall (2 stories with a balcony) and
living quarters, respectively.

The back half...well, the sea cave is finished (the lowest "floor",
actually 2 stories high, with a portcullis-guarded entrance and access
to the dungeon), and the left rear side is complete on the
'balcony level'.

I'm almost out of black bricks, and am eyeing the NLNLF's partially
completed fire station, wondering if I can swap out some of the black for
red.  I'm also brassoing off the pillars from some decorated black castle
wall pieces I have (the same ones that are used in the RKC, although I got
these from the Dacta castle set.)  Looks pretty nice once the pillars are
gone - I left the stones around the window. (Side note: if anyone just
loves those pieces and wants to save 3 more from being Brasso'ed, I'll
trade for any other black 1x5x6 castle wall piece.)  And I'm anxiously
awaiting my delivery from KBKids.com, which includes another pair of NLCs
(hey, at $31 they're an incredible value) - love those arched windows!

I guess that's about all.  Just wanted to share some details.  The only
problem with building something like this is that I have no idea if I'll
be able to disassemble it - but it uses so many of my pieces!  The worst
part about it is, it started out as a creation for Castle World that would
play only a minor role!  (I may need to change that later...perhaps
someone else can occupy it after it serves its role in the plot.  Who
occupies it now?  An old..."friend"...of the Red Fox...)

herself now...

Hey Jeff! I'm always happy to hear any kind of "ramble" (IMO it's not ramble anyhow) as long as it's castle related <grin>... In lugnet.castle, Jeff Johnston writes: <snip> Sounds like a great layout! Using hinges is really good, I like accessible (...) (24 years ago, 11-Apr-00, to lugnet.castle)
