Quite interesting. He is plain wrong on some issues, but overall he
raises some key points. The most pertinent is this:
"Well, if there is a U.N. resolution backing the war in Iraq, and I
don't doubt there will be, the average Briton is not going to care about
the headlines in the Guardian about how the U.S. muscled the Security
Council to agree to a war agenda."
I'd agree. Whilst the anti-war feeling is widespread, the lack of a real
debate and the abundance of pro-war "propaganda" means that opposition
will melt like snow in springtime once the 2nd resolution is obtained
[as it will be as I doubt anyone will use their veto]. What the Guardian
has to say is largely irrelevant [where mass opinion is concerned] as it
has such a small share of the market. Papers like the Express, Sun, Mail
& Mirror are those which in/form mass opinion in the UK. That said, I
think most Brits get their news from BBC & ITN.
I expect only the Mirror [down/mid-market tabloid] and the Guardian will
continue to question events seriously after a 2nd resolution [together
with the BBC & ITN as they have to stay independent].
