I agree. Let's stop encouraging it. Only reply to his posts if they're worth
your time. Agreed?

And only respond to theft if the item's big enough to worry about? Works for
TARGET. Doesn't work for me, though. It encourages the notion that small
thefts are OK.

Ah, but while petty theft may still be wrong, is it worth capital
punishment? Or maybe just cutting off their hands? Is it worth the time?

If it's OK for theft, is it ok for antisocial behaviour? I ignore minor
antisocial behaviour when displayed by 3 year olds, because I assume they
have parents that will correct them. There is no enforcement mechanism here.

Should we expect one? Aren't you always on the side of retaining people's
liberties? Suppose "the o-t.debate police" deem your behavior as detremental?

Ban him.

Way too harsh. Deal with him. If you can't learn to accept the fact that
Scott's going to get under your skin, tough noogies on you, I say. And if
neither of you can deal with it (or anyone else involved too) and end up
making this forum into a 99% flame fest, perhaps you'll both get banned.

Like I said before, when your own position has been challenged, don't
respond out of anger or pride. Re-examine your position-- there may be merit
to the challenge. Lots of us are telling you to drop it. Perhaps there's
value to that assesment? We're not saying you're no better than Scott.
You're quite different. You did compare the stats, after all :) We're just
suggesting that you drop it. It's not worth your time. And it's not worth
Scott's either.

(...) So you think there's a tolerable level of theft? Some shrinkage is acceptable? Don't ever work for me unless you are prepared to set that attitude aside. No level of theft is "acceptable" and no level should be "tolerated" because it's too (...) (23 years ago, 23-Oct-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
