Actually, priority mail is only flat rate [1] up to around four or five pounds
[2][3].
Above that, the cost of shipping coast to cost can be almost triple the cost
of shipping the same weight across town.
Check it out at postcalc.usps.gov.
Will
1) Flat rate across various mileages.
2) I don't remember whether it is four or five pounds, and I didn't feel like
plugging and chugging on the postal rate calculator to figure it out.
3) Of course, if you can cram it into the fixed rate envelope, it doesn't
matter how much it weighs, though this might only be useful if you are
shipping sheets of lead, gold or DU (Depleted Uranium).

As for the supplies i use the web site all the time (plus stamps.com so for shipping i never have to go anywhere). But the site is geared twoards bulk, boxes (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-00, to lugnet.market.shipping)
