I wonder if that kind of increase would actually matter, though. Sure, it
would be a 50% increase in incoming fees, and it might make a difference in
the amount of money Dan brings in (I would have paid about $128 this year so
far instead of about $85) but I doubt it would bridge the gap between shared
hosting and dedicated hosting.
Dedicated hosting is *expensive* - especially when you're talking going the
Win2k/IIS/ route. Dell's low-end solution is $199/mo with Linux, $259/mo
with Win2k.
I'm not completely sure which plan Dan went with at Interland, but if my
guess is correct I'd say $259/mo is more than five times more - so a 50%
increase in fees wouldn't put a dent in that.
As for more "reliable" hosting - shared hosting is shared hosting. It
almost doesn't matter who you're with - at some point you reach a cap simply
because a box can only do so much. Not sure another provider would make
much difference if it was just going to be another shared solution.
