The black train windows came from a 4559 which has 4. Also, you might think of getting 2 5542's if you want to make one in all black. Most of the yellow pieces also occur in black in that set, so 2 should allow you to substitute most of the yellow (...) (25 years ago, 14-Nov-99, to lugnet.build)

I, too, buy LEGO sets for the parts, but I normally build the main model anyway. If it's a small model, I try to build it without looking at the instructions. When the model is built, I tear it down again almost immediately and sort the pieces into (...) (25 years ago, 13-Nov-99, to lugnet.build)

Piece count estimation: The board squares each (of 32 black, 32 red) consist of: - 16 1x4 - 4 2x2 - 4 1x2 I'm not sure about the yellow grid... lots of 1x4, 1x6, 1x8 as well as some red pieces (unseen on bottom grid level interior). It's an interesting point you have made with seeing the colour you want. I sort basic bricks by colour and everything else by form. The reason that I sort basic bricks by colour is because I don't look at them, so seeing the colour doesn't work. I (...) (25 years ago, 6-Nov-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) I was a bit concerned too, and although there has been no short term damage, I don't know about the long term. I think that the smell is just normal soft plastic outgassing. The plano boxes are made of a fairly soft plastic, so I don't think (...) (25 years ago, 6-Nov-99, to lugnet.build)

Hello Mark; Building a LEGO model of this satellite sounds like an excellent project. Some thoughts on the ongoing discussion: (...) My brother-in-law happens to own Alberta Industrial Models. Wow! that's quick! (...) Actually, I would not know. JPL is one of many NASA centers, and there are 6000 employees at JPL with hundreds of projects and no chat rooms like this, to be sure. Legos have been used to build rovers and stuff for kids as (...) (25 years ago, 5-Nov-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) I sort by form and color. I have LEGO storage drawers (5225, 545, etc.). Each drawer is a color. 1 drawer for each color of 1x, 2x and plates. I also have drawers for miscellaneous elements by color: expanders, roofs, 5 tall bricks, rounds, (...) (25 years ago, 5-Nov-99, to lugnet.build)
