Hmm.  Ok, I can see this, excepting that some of the offerings in .shopping

(for example) DYA?  He's got multiple copies of a single set, but posts to
.buy-sell-trade.  Should he be told that .shopping is a more appropriate venue?
How about BAYLIT?

And what of the (hypothetical) situation where a major retailer sees an
opportunity to catch a specialized group - if eToys or TRU starts posting
messages, where would they go?

It seems to me that all of these are probably best off in shopping. Of
course if eToys or TRU start posting, I would expect them to keep the
posts to a reasonable quantity (1 per week or less, except when
announcing specials).

The posts in shopping about this or that store having a sale etc. are
appropriate, even if the quantities may be a little limited (the overall
quantities should be fairly large as most of the stores are chains). A
store which is not a chain, and which doesn't do mail order, should
probably only be posted in local groups, or in buy-sell-trade with a
note that the person making the announcement is willing to buy sets for
people.

(...) Ok. What you are saying is that two types of posts belong in .shopping: 1) posts by individuals about sales they have discovered 2) advertisements by companies that sell Lego Ultimately, I don't care at all about #2. However, #1 is so (...) (25 years ago, 10-Sep-99, to lugnet.admin.general)
