This is truely an interesting subject. Can a fan related site become too
professional?
I feel not, because the things that make commercial sites look so much like
commercial sites are the adds, the cluttered look and the flashy elements.
We already know that Suz is one heck of a designer, but can that be a
downfall for Lugnet, can a look that is too good kill? I disagree with
Allan, a good look, especially when as inviting as I feel Suz's concept is,
can not be bad. I feel the design is a professional design, but not a
commercial design.

Yes, I agree. The reason I agree is because the business site has
advertisements, overdone flashy effects and it seems cluttered. The fan
site is free of those characteristics and is inviting in that sense. I
feel, as long as Lugnet stays from the commercial look, despite however
professional looks, it will stay inviting. (Who can say no to three smiling
minifigs?)
I don't know if you are farmiliar with fbtb.net, but their site is very
inviting but also classy and professional. Many other fan based sites
follow this same trend. Does this not make them fan sites? I don't believe so.

Ditto!

Allan, I commend you for your polite, tactful response, especially when the
poster's original message was quite different. I felt he was offensive
torward your opinion. I admire the fact that you didn't blow off in an
uncalled for manner or go into a defenive, and instead posted what you did,
especially with a factual base.

| (...) Ooops, sorry...... didn't mean to give that impression. There's nothing wrong with good design; quite the contrary. I was simply trying to suggest that the design I saw there appeared somewhat too business-like. Perhaps I can clarify with (...) (22 years ago, 7-Jun-02, to lugnet.admin.general)
