Anytime I see an old/rare Lego set for sale on Ebay and the instructions are not available on brickshelf, I send an e-mail to the seller (or the buyer) asking for scans of the instructions. Most are happy to comply. (27 years ago, 6-Sep-99, to lugnet.db.scans)

Yes it is slow, if you count 1/2 a second slow, but not horrible. The big problem comes with control. Finding neutral again. NQC to the rescue. I did a 256 gif export using Photoshop 5.5, and then did 15% lossy compression, and cut the colors down to 16. The files turned out to be 2-4 k gif files, download time cut down to a third of previous value!. It still looks pretty nice too. Pat J (...) (27 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.publish)

The best way to avoid high current running thru the brick is to control a small red motor which drives one of the polarity switches which is hooked up to a battery pack and that in turn runs the main motors. We had this problem at the LEGO (...) (27 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

I've built a robot with a rotation sensor that keeps track of the position of the steering wheels. If you gear up this movement a bit it gets accurate enough to keep the wheels straight. You need to add a calibration routine to your program to find (...) (27 years ago, 5-Sep-99, to lugnet.build)

MJ, The RCX itself does not need a lot of power. However, if you're going to run 2 motors off each output port (a total of 6), 200 mA won't be enough. I have just helped 12 people build up the handy board with expansion board at a cost of 165 each. But I live in the Heart of Silicon Valley. i have found out that the futuron Monorail works much the same way. Connect a light to the monorail motor, and run the motor on the track. The lights will be lit! Is it possible to use the RCX to launch probes that will orbit around the moon ;-) No, that´s not what i am asking, but what about a launcher for a lego-spaceship, like one of those small classic space ships.
