James, these renderings are fantastic.

My favorites from James' list -

Includes red train motor decorations! That would be great for building
German style engines with red bases and wheel sets.

You simply cannot have enough curved pieces.

Windshields in red and brown! Wheelsets in red! And lots of green, brown and
tan windows & doors. The color palette you chose is top notch.

While I like the new 1x3 curved pieces (for roofs), I'm not all that crazy
about the newer curved pices (2 x 5? in gray, white, black, red and orange
in the center)

I think the color palette chosen will be just important as the part
selection in making this product a success. Seeing train windows, doors,
windscreens and wheelsets in red/green/brown/tan/etc would be quite
refreshing.

I really hope the LEGO employed lurkers follow this thread and take the
input back to the design teams.

In general, I'd love to open this conversation up to the community at • large.
We've had quite a bit of conversation (as SteveB can attest) with the • Signal
group about what parts are the "core" parts that are needed to make • trains.
We have an initial palette, and I may be able to share that later. But • before
I do that, I'd really like to hear from the greater community. What do • you
think? What parts (not necessarily "train" parts) are needed to create • the
widest variety of trains possible?

Here's another go with • <http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=146192
some parts ideas to support building trains>.

Fun discussion!

later,
