I've been working on collecting the parts need to create LEGO versions of
some trains available in CAD format from Brickshelf. There is a steep
learning curve associated with MLCAD, etc. And I understand the frustrations
echoed in other threads.

But it really is amazing to see how these models are put together. And once
you see how a unique part is used, it is always amusing to see it elevated
from "useless" to "I must buy 10 more on Bricklink!" status.

This got me thinking about what parts are integral components of the LEGO
Train System.

In his BrickFest 2005 Notes (
http://www.bricksonthebrain.com/brickfest2005 ) Jake mentions the new
Ultimate Train Builders set, slated for 2006.

The AFOL feedback group has apparently been working with LEGO on the part
selection for this kit. But I would like to throw the question out to the
group.

What parts should be in the box?
How many engines / cars should it be able to make at once?
Freight? Passenger? Both?
Color scheme?

Here are some details of our process (walkin the NDA fine line here, so bear with me)... Imagine if you were asked to come up with ~40** unique (specific shape and specific color) parts to add the LEGO Factory palette for a train factory palette. (...) (19 years ago, 16-Sep-05, to lugnet.trains)
