But I guess the core question here is this - Besides the obvious (buffer plates, train wheels, bogies plates, etc.), what parts can you not live without in order to be able to create great train models?

Thinking about the trains I have built recently, apart from the above I think my most commonly used pieces (not including standard bricks/plates/tiles) are :
4274 Technic Pin 1/2
2436 Bracket 1 x 2 - 1 x 4
2412b Tile 1 x 2 Grille with Groove
3794 Plate 1 x 2 with 1 Stud
6091 Brick 2 x 1 with Curved Top and 6081 Brick 2 x 4 x 1 & 1/3 with Curved Top
4085c Plate 1 x 1 with Clip Vertical - Type 3
Also lots of flex tubing
None of wich are very ‘trainy’. I haven’t used any windscreens and only these windows.

Tim

(...) Good question. Actually, we're still working out many of the details, specifically the great questions you ask above. More info as we can release (and when we actually have decisions to release!). In general, I'd love to open this conversation (...) (19 years ago, 16-Sep-05, to lugnet.trains, FTX)
