I fully understand why our friends of the technic persuasion are not fond of
these sets. They are a dramatic departure from the space shuttle or formula
one racer that seems to be more popular among this group. I think people are
forgetting that this year TLC is putting out two new 4x4 sets that should
please the hardcore among us, so there is little evidence that bionicle is
causing a shortage on serious technic sets. Besides Cyber slammer was far
worse than bionicle.

Finally with the big popularity in magna and gundam stuff here in the USA I
can see these sets attracting several new people, and that is largely TLC's
goal. These new sets show a great deal of imagination and effort, and rather
than wishing bionicle ill, we should hope that TLC will begin to put as much
effort into existing lines as they have to this one.

I have to agree. I picked up a bionicle this weekend and was pleasantly
surprised. Compared to throwbots and roboriders I think it is a step
forward. For me, the main strength of the line is that you can build an
action figure that has the articulation of a regular action figure and even
has a built in "special action". That is cool and meets my Lego litmus test
of whether I would have liked it when I was ten years old.  Now I will not
collect all the figures or go out and buy the masks. I like the story and
think it adds to the line but it doesn't pull me in. But I think the sets
are a great value at their price point and seeing how Lego is expanding the
line with the forthcoming Makuta, I believe there is real innovation in
these sets. I am interested to see whether and how Lego continues the line
next year.
