Sapience and sentience indeed aren't the same
thing--sentience is the ability to perceive and
discern by the senses, while sapience is knowledge
or wisdom. Many argue (granted, most are in PETA)
that mammals--or all animals--are sentient at some
level. I can't use "person" for them. I'd argue that
Darth Maul is probably quite sapient, but all definitions
for "person" (Webster's, OED, etc) that mention
self-conscious beings *also* mention human as a part
of the definition. So the question seems still open.
Does anyone know what race he's supposed to be
from? Makes me wonder if maybe he's a Mandalorian
(like Fett supposedly is). D'ya think he has any ink
poisoning from that darn tattoo?
Followups set to lugnet.off-topic.debate.
