Well, Philo did it again, Hourrah for him... I bypassed the fuse and the RCX came back to life. Now, will I be carefull enough with my RCX without a fuse or should I replace it ? (17 years ago, 2-Sep-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

ok, now i understand what you mean. the problem is that this setup could be difficult for long axes, i guess the axle with the worm gears would flex too much... (manually wouldn't be a problem) one possibility would be to slowly turn the spindle while the tool is being inserted so it finds the axlehole more (...) I applied 9V AC power to a RCX 2.0... yes yes, DC is required. Does anybody successfully repaired such a disaster ? Here are pictures pointing to what I think burned out. What is that component ? Anybody successfully replaced it ? (URL) have (...) (17 years ago, 24-Aug-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

I use BrickOS (LegOS) but I'm not expert in the inner workings. The code you have here appears fine to me. So, it may be a bug in BrickOS, or a problem elsewhere in your code. I tried my own skill on writing a program for the included lego test pad (RIS 2.0), and I discovered something weird. One of my students accidently left a tied up gear train running for a while, i.e. In the midst of running a RCX, the case not only gets very hot, but also has a very strong plastic burning smell.
