Hi all,

I'm not sure if this has come up in the past, (if so, can someone please
direct me to that thread), but I wonder what kinds of non lego activities
you guys get up to, and if you have found any comparisons or contrasts
between other hobbies and your lego hobby. Often someone's passions indicate
a lot about the person. Maybe some of us can find other AFOLs who share our
other hobbies and passions? I'll go first.

My other main passion is that I'm a die hard Bruce Springsteen fan, or a
"Bruce Tramp" in Brucespeak. I've been listening to him for about half my
life, since I was 12 or so, and been a die hard "crazy" type fan since maybe
I was 15 or so. I listen to his music, collect concert recordings and
analyse his songs with other fans.  When he is on tour, I see as many shows
as I can. To date, I've seen the guy 18 times.

In addition to the obvious things such as Bruce being a great live performer
and songwriter,  guess I'd say that I admire him because I relate to the
message of his music. His music has taken on a role beyond mere
entertainment for me, it has a kind of ethic I think is important, and
corresponds broadly with my own values and opinions.

It's interesting comparing my two great passions, both have taken on a whole
new meaning upon my discovery of the online fan communities, bringing a very
social element to both passions. In the case of lego, discovering Lugnet a
year ago was the main thing that brought me out of my almost dark age. Both
fan communities have their own jargon and specialist terms. Also I've
noticed that fans seem to have a kind of bond with one another, even if
the've never met. If I meet someone else who turns out to be an AFOL or
Bruce Tramp, there is an instant connection of sorts. I guess the main
difference between my two passions is that as a lego builder, I actively
build things and compare the art that I and other AFOLs produce, whereas as
a Bruce Tramp, I analyse and discuss something with other fans that someone
else created. Also, as I said, Bruce fandom has taken on a meaning beyond
just entertainment and social interaction.

I think Bruce fandom is more important to me than my lego passion
(blasphemy, I know!), and is a more important part of my identity than being
an AFOL is. But then again, I only came out of my almost dark age a year ago
(although I've been building in some capacity lego since I was 3). I hope to
keep building lego and listening to Bruce for the rest of my life, but if I
lose interest in either, I don't expect I will feel bad about stopping.

Anyway, thanks for reading, how about you?

Magnus

PS Any other Bruce tramps out there among you AFOLs?
