I generally feel that way too, but this isn't really shareware; it's a free
demo version of a commercial product. Which, ethically speaking, seems miles
away -- you're licensed to use the free (but slightly crippled) version as

Hrmmmm, given that I might just take a look at it, although I suppose I could
just as easily bring Exceed home from work and use it.  Maybe I'll try both.

I might give that a shot.  I'm going to try something called VNC as well.
I've used it to link two Win95 machines over a lan, but it also can be
used as a pseudo x-server, sorda, it seems.

Yeah, I've thought about looking into that, but haven't tried yet...

I tried it out and couldn't get it working.  Oh well, I'll just try a
full-fledged program.  The times I've installed Exceed at work have
gone pretty flawless.

Try `man pico`. The -r option, I think is what you want.

Thanks. :)  Knew you'd work a rtfm in there somehow. ;D

I was flipping through "A Practical Guide to Linux" at a bookstore the other
day; it looked pretty good.

I'm going to order it from Bookpool right now after reading all the comments
on it at Amazon and those of Linus himself at Bookpool.  Only $27.95 to boot,
better than the $39.95 price at Amazon, oddly enough.

There's a lot of differences between 4.2 and 5.x, but none really affect
basic functionality much. Mostly updated versions of things, a few new
tools, but really if you're just learning things, the differences don't
matter. Don't get anything earlier than 4.2 though....

Thanks for the advice!

(...) Yeah, the real work is done on the Linux box; the Win95 machine just does the display. It works tolerably over fast WAN connections, although you're probably not going to want to do it that way regularly. (...) Yeah, it's expensive, but I've (...)
