In lugnet.off-topic.debate, John DiRienzo writes:

First off, I just want to say I apologize to John, I think I misunderstood a
lot from here, and we had our own disagreements elsewhere. I sincerely
apologize to you Johm, and everyone here, for being out of line for the
initial America post.

Ah, Scott, Lugnet's voice of reason.  ;-P

Of course. You won't find a cooler, calm, rational person here. ;)

So you are telling me slavery = racism?

I think slavery was part os racism, and that slavery has produced racism,
because if people thought of other people as equals, that slavery would not
have happened.

These are different things.  Perhaps we have ended slavery, and perhaps
we have integrated public schools, and I hope there are fewer people today
who think of blacks as sub-humans than there were fifty years ago, but
racism itself is no less than it has ever been.

Uh, maybe, maybe not. I can't help that, but I try to treat all people fairly,
and tell people that don't about it.

I guess you are just
talking about black people, most of whom are stilll getting a raw deal, and
not about the immigrants who come here and are called names they've never
heard before, right?  You are refering to the progress blacks have made, but
you make no reference to the progress our society has made towards ending
hatred, racism and all forms of prejudice.  You, too, are denying that
racism is strong although you KNOW its there.  You are making a choice not
to see, acknowledge or help destroy it.  Why?

Hmm... I never said that racism is dead, it is alive and well, fostered by
(IMO) stupid and ignorant people. I think there are racists of all races and
minorities and majorities. It is a human condition, and one everyone needs to
deal with. What people do and act is a caller for me. I know a lot of bad
white people, and I know some real outstanding black people as well. As for
raw deals and the like concerning Americans of African decent and others, I
don't know what you are referring to, and I will leave it at that.

And I do know that I am making a differnce in it, even if it is a small one. I
confronted several members of my church about it, as well as my friends. I
just don't go in lockstep with the leftist ways of "solving" racism, such as
hate crimes, etc.

You say there are problems that will get better over time.  Indubitably,
but how?  By denying it, right? No no no no no no no no no

See above. More education, from parents, schools, and religious organizations
that do what God really wanted, not some twisted evil groups people like the
KKK, who are Satan's minions, AFAIAC.

We all know, or have heard, that racism is based on ignorance, and fear.
I hope with the internet, there will be a type of intellectual reawakening
in this country (well, if I am going to hope, I might as well hope for the
whole world!)   I hope that more people will be enlightened - will b
erelieved of ignorance and will see the plain insanity of racism (and hate),
including you, Scott.

? I don't consider myself a racist, and I try not to hate anyone, it is wrong,
according to God, but leftists really get me close sometimes (I digress on
naming names, etc). I worked at several facilities where most of the black
people are better workers than the white people, I went to school with all
kinds of people, and I do have a few friends of various ethnic backgrounds,
but it really doesn't matter to me. Who are you, what are you doing, are you a
productive member of society, are you obeying the laws and not violating other
peoples rights? Are you doing a good job? That's what makes an impression on
me, not the shade of your melanin. I don't know what you are implying John,
but I don't think it is right, but you need to contact me about this because I
think you are misinterpreting me. I hope this post does enlighten you a little
about me.

Here's a quote from Martin Luthur King, Junior (A great man and hero of this
country) from a song from DC Talk I listened to today, Free at Last, from the
track Free at Last, which reminded me of this issue:

" When all of God's Children, Black men and White men (I think of all people,
not just black and white), Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will
be able to join hands & sing in the old negro spiritual, Free at Last, free at
last, Thank God Almighty, we're free at last."

I think we are all God's children (Atheists, you can translate into "Invisible
Pink Elephant", as Larry P says), we are all equal, we will all get judged
equally before God, and God made the human race with different colors. Another
good song by D.C. Talk is Colored People, off the Jesus Freak album, which is
also a good song for this discussion.

What I said that you put me down for was not wrong,
Scott.  The fact that you scoff me so harshly for it should tell you
something about yourself.  It tells me you are pretty stubborn, unwilling to
change, and unwilling to hear anything but what you want to, mainly Rush
Limbaugh.

Well, John, I hear a lot of different things, but Rush is one of the things I
listen to, not to mention all the books and magazines I do read. I scoffed you
because I am stubborn, and I apologize for that, I did not approach it
correctly, even though I do think the USA, even with all of it's problems, did
do the right thing eventually, even if it took some head knockings before we
realized it. We do have a ways to go, but I am hopeful, based on the things
happening, it will get better. I am stubborn (I do see black and white in
terms of absolutes, I do not comprimise, I do not back down from what I
believe in), but I changed a lot since I was in high school. Back then, before
Christ made an impact in my life, I thought a lot of stupid things. But
maturity, growth, and involvment with many people changed that.

As for Rush, I like Rush because he is not afraid to tell people his beliefs,
and does not pretend he is fair, when he is biased, which is a lot more than
the leftist media outlets do. I do not agree with Rush all the time, but I do
think he is entertaining, and when he gets the leftists good, it is a good
time.

I like Rush - he is smart.  I just wish he hadn't sold out to
people like you, telling you exactly what he knows you want to hear, instead
of something true.

Sold out to people like me? John, I think you need to e-mail me and talk about
this, because I think you are misinterpreting me, or something. "telling you
exactly what he knows you want to hear, instead
of something true." is unsettling, and unfair, becuase I don't know what you
are referring to.

You need to clarify this with me, because I don't want to misinterpret it.

As for the rest of you fine off.topic.debate readers, I will recap what I
believe in and how I feel about race issues:

1) I think we are all God's creation, all equal, and all deserving of the same
respect.
2) I think many people love to create and foster race conflicts, and continue
to devide people for their own personal and political agendas, which harm
everyone.
3) Racism is wrong, and ignorant, and people should be educating others about
it. I know I had to do it with my mom, my sister, my niece, and even my old
church. It is a major problem, but in time, I think it will be less. It will
not be easy, but it is doable.
4) As for TLC, I don't care whether they do make DSM's or not (There are
positives and negatives on both sides, and I leave it up to TLC to decide it).
I think it would be better for character development, and be more realistic, I
would use them for sure, but if they do, I hope they drop the bright yellow
minifigs and do make Caucasin ones.
5) I wish I could solve all the world ills, in regards to racism, poverty,
etc. but I can't. I support what I believe in, I try to treat everyone fairly,
and I try to be the best person I can be. I have my failings, and one of them
is getting too involved with politics, which is why I try to avoid
off.topic.debate.
6) I am a member of the Promise Keepers, which is a Christian organization
committed to helping out men live Godly lives.
Here is the seven promises which are thier core, and the website:
http://www.promisekeepers.org/faqs/core/faqscore24.htm

Number 7 is a good one here:
"7. A Promise Keeper is committed to reaching beyond any racial and
denominational barriers to demonstrate the power of biblical unity"

It demonstrates the need to all people that we need to break down racial
barriers, stop deviding everyone, and start realizing we are one people. I
really beive in the Promise Keepers, and I think the above promise is a great
start to start healng our world.

I hope I explained myself well enough here. If not feel free to e-mail me at
ssanburn@cleanweb.net for questions, comments, etc.

As for the leftists here, such as Bruce (Your a good guy, Bruce, even if we
are 100% opposite on politics, but if your Miata ever breaks down, and I am
around, I can put it in back of my Suburban and give you a lift :) ), among
others, I will just say, I will agree to disagree with you, on race issues, as
well as other issues, and leave it at that.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good night, and I hope you have fun with your
LEGO products, I need to fill some orders and try to make some people happy. i
am really drained from this folks, I hope my point is taken, even if you have
disagreements with me. another reason I try not to come here. I will also try
not to drop little posts about subjects like this, but folks, please try to
keep groups for LEGO products intheir resective categories, and keep debates
for here. It would make a lot of people feel better, I for one.

About as sincere as I can get,

Scott S.

P.S. I will refer to this post from now on to state my beliefs on race issues
in case it comes up again.

  Have fun!

I wish I could, but it does not happen a lot.
