Thats it! Isnt this the entire crux of the issue? How does a free and
open society protect itself while respecting civil rights? The answer and
dirty little secret is IT CANT! And the terrorists know this! That is
why they use our love of freedom and turn it against us! They know (or
thought they did) that the US doesnt have the stomach to fight such a
threat, that we would negotiate or simply acquiesce (as the USSR did in
Afganistan).

Uh, the stomach to defend the U.S. Constitution, John?! Im sorry, but I think
at least some of us are willing to do that and also have the stomach for it.
Freedom is not the same as perfect safety. I can live with imperfect safety if I
can retain my freedoms. Thats the U.S. that everyone is willing to die for; not
some fascist, right-wing, nightmare, no civil rights version of it.
If I never had proof for your abhorrence for the Constitutional U.S., John,
there it is above for all to read. I am so sorry that some of us Pinko,
left-wing, U.S. Constitution loving patriots are planning to stand in the way of
your psycho republican pals achieving some kind of crazed Xtian oligarchy.
Sorry, but not too sorry...

The fact remains that SOMEBODY needs to stand up to these
scumbags and hunt them down and wipe them from the face of the earth as an
example for other future potential scum followers to see, as potential state
sponsors of terrorism have seen WRT the fates of the Taliban and SHs evil
regime.

Do you mean power hungry beaurocrats that lock people up without right to an
attorney or trial, and then torture them? Do you mean states that belligerently
enter into and meddle in the sovereign affairs of other countries?
I agree 100% -- we need to stop that stuff right now.

| (...) What is your definition of "imperfect safety"? As long as other people are killed by terrorists and I can still have my freedom, I can live with imperfect safety. Well what if you were in one of those towers? Tell me how you can live through (...) (21 years ago, 1-Aug-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
