I agree, LUGNET just isn’t as user friendly as it was and these days people have more options than just LUGNET to talk LEGO. I suspect if there isn’t some great reformation (not just changing the look of the homepage) this place will be history in a few years. Sad to see this place go bye-bye but...

Adrian,

I sort of agree with you as the technology behind the current version of LUGNET was very sophisticated and advanced way back when... ...but there certainly are other ways to provide a lot of the functionality now.

That is why of course a lot of thinking is going on in the heads of some of us. Looking at the activity and interest still around, it is obvious that something must happen to cater for the Web 2.0 era and on.

Some ideas are there, more ideas are most certainly out there and should be discussed sooner rather than later. We might even think of setting up a separate group for such a discussion. If something really new were to happen to LUGNET’s forums, that would most likely mean that some of the old functionality will have to be discontinued someday. There will probably just as many people disliking that approach than there will be embracing whatever new approach we will come up with.

As a matter of fact, one new thing is already in the works but unfortunately too early to post a link here yet.

Given how short-lived many a web project is these days, looking at LUGNET with a track record dating back to the Nineties (!) is certainly something we want to take good care of. In a way, “Senior” is a good way of putting it - it may be a bit slower but you always come to appreciate the experience...

Looking forward to shaping the future of LUGNET,

Jerry

There is a lot here I would be devastated to lose. Lugnet remains an excellent centre point for news, and one of the few places where different themes come out of their niches and mix. Sentimental value as well... All the best and God Bless, Nathan (16 years ago, 5-Jul-08, to lugnet.general, FTX)

(...) Jerry, I am glad you have come out and posted this. Doing so tells all of us who have been here since this place started that you don't want LUGNET to die either. Adr. (16 years ago, 6-Jul-08, to lugnet.general, FTX)
